Teacher's Day.

Some time ago a friend of mine was asking about any professor who had had a deep impact on me, beyond the academic point. I thought about all of the great teachers I had at school, and my first English teacher at Salesian School came to my mind. The great Mr. Ruben Valencia. He, with his great level as an English teacher was responsible that I fell in love with the language, which was useful for me not only to get great grades but was useful in my life as well.

Thanks to English I have enjoyed good rock music, specially the Birtish one, and good movies. Thanks to English I hace managed to get in touch with relatives in Hawaii, and with English speaking friend in Okinawa. A beloved Japanese friend taught me Japanesse grammar using English grammar. Thanks to the language I could read a Garcia Marquez book in a quite different way. I could met also the best American comics of the 90's: Calvin and Hobbes, B.C., For Better or For Worse, Beetle Bailey, Hägar the Horrible, Blondie. Obama, Clapton, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Tina Turner, Ray Romano, Jimmy Fallon and Nicole Kidman. Meryl Streep with her Italian English and the numerous English accents she is able to perform, and Gloria Estefan with her Cuban English. I enjoy the language like music to my ears.

Día del profesor

Hace poco una amiga profesora me preguntaba por algún profesor que me haya impactado personalmente, más allá del lado netamente académico. Pensé en todos los grandes maestros que tuve, y me acordé de mi primer profesor de inglés en el Salesiano. El gran Rubén Valencia. Él con su gran calidad docente fue el responsable de que me enamorara del idioma, que no solo me sirvió para sacar buenas notas en su curso, sino también para la vida.

Gracias al idioma he podido disfrutar de todas las gamas del buen rock, en especial del británico, y de buen cine. Gracias al inglés he podido comunicarme con familiares en Hawaii, con amigos angloparlantes en Okinawa; gracias al inglés un amigo japonés que tenía nociones de la gramática del idioma me enseñaba gramática del japonés; gracias al inglés pude leer una novela de García Márquez de una manera diferente; he podido conocer también los mejores comics americanos durante los 90's: Calvin and Hobbes, B.C., For Better or for Worse, Beetle Bailey, Hägar The Horrible, Blondie (Lorenzo y Pepita en español). Obama, Clapton, Marilyn, John, Tina Turner, Ray Romano, Jimmy Fallon y Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep con su inglés italiano y sus ene acentos del idioma y Gloria Estefan con su inglés cubano. Disfruto del idioma como si fuera música para mis oídos. Como dirían los gringos, I fucking love English!!!
